The Vertical Path
The Vertical Path is an experiential land-based artwork and collaboration with long-time friend, Jeanne Lynch.
Guided walks on The Vertical Path are available by request.
Situated at The Wildēornes (Andes, New York), visitors are invited to move through the landscape as one might through the body of a tree—from the dark roots of the forest to the open crown of the sky. A line of white string, like a mycelial thread, connects seven colored guideposts. Each stop along the path marks a point of attention, a shift in energy: forest floor, distant pond, open field, towering evergreens, bubbling stream, and finally, a wetland willow rising like a quiet cathedral. Inspired by walking meditation practices, visitors are encouraged to move slowly and attune to seven distinct points in the landscape—each linked with a symbolic point in the body. Visitors are given an illustrated, self-guided map with suggested activites for at each point on the path.
A conversation with a natural place and an alignment of the physical and spiritual body, this walk offers a way to notice more fully — to remember that we, like the mycelium beneath us, are threaded through it all.
The Vertical Path was included in the exhibition Symbiocene Era: Mycelium, Soils, and Roots at Bushel in Delhi, NY, October 25–December 7, 2025, with a guided walk on October 26th.
